David Hufstedler

David Hufstedler started out on cornet and trumpet in elementary school, switching to tuba in the high school band. He also began playing bass guitar in those high school days in the late '60s and early '70s.

Studying music at Norfolk State and Old Dominion University, Dave began playing professionally with the Norfolk Symphony, played in the pit band for touring Broadway shows, and subsequently hit the road as a touring musician. For the last twenty five years, he's made a name for himself as a jazz musician, performing throughout southeastern Virginia. He's also worked with popular regional dance bands and even ran his own booking agency in the 1980s.

These days, Dave is one of Jim Newsom's closest musical associates, working with him in duo settings in addition to the full band lineup. An amazing stylist on the 6-string bass guitar, David Hufstedler brings a wealth of musical ideas and instrumental virtuosity to the Jim Newsom Quartet.
