Jim Newsom currently performs primarily with the Jim Newsom Quartet. Occasionally, the event calls for a duo, trio or quintet setting, and Jim is ready with those as well. Each of these configurations offers a vibrant and entertaining brand of music. Both are led by Jim's multi-instrumental versatility and deliver exciting performances everywhere they play.
Jim Newsom plays regularly across southeastern Virginia, an area which includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Franklin and Courtland, as well as on the outer banks of North Carolina. In addition to club gigs, Jim and his musical companions have performed at major area festivals, including Norfolk's Harborfest, Chesapeake Jubilee, Suffolk Peanut Festival, Neptune Festival, Stockley Gardens Art Festival, Cannonball Music Festival and the Ghent Arts Festival. They have played for large corporate functions, wedding receptions, civic club picnics and events at the Chrysler Museum of Art, the D'Art Center, the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Norfolk Botanical Garden and the Rawls Museum Arts. Jim has appeared on the local commercial television programs, "Live at Nine" and "Morning Break," and is well known by viewers throughout the region for his long association with PBS-affiliate WHRO-TV.
Jim Newsom has a large and extensive playlist, allowing each performance's setlist to be tailored to the occasion. In clubs designed for listening, the band will emphasize its jazz and improvisational abilities. In a dance setting, the guys crank out a rhythmic pulse to keep the crowd moving. For a cocktail reception, the group plays it soft and mellow. In front of a large festival audience, Jim and his musical companions light up the stage with their mix of finely tuned nuance and improvisational pyrotechnics.
Such versatility makes Jim Newsom the perfect choice for your next event.
